21st Century Oboe
Christopher Redgate & the Howarth-Redgate Oboe
   Home      The Lupophon

The Lupophon is a recently developed bass oboe. Its range goes down to a low F at the bottom of the bass clef. This instrument is still relatively rare - this is the only thumb-plate version in the world but I am convinced it has a major future.

Many of the composers I work with are interested in writing for the instrument.

At the time of writing I have been able to find a significant number of multiphonics and interesting upper harmonics.

This instrument can be heard on my recording of Michael Finnissy's Âwâz-e Niyâz

I have also written three works for the instrument: Solo 1 and 2 and Dodo's Lament for lupophon and strings.
